A Daily Devotional with Pastor Doug Crouse June 1, 2018 A Promise of Power Scripture Reading – Acts 1:8 (NLT) "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. and you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere - in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

Often while driving through the mountains, or especially through a mountain I have been reminded of the power of dynamite. For those who are the pioneers in road construction, I am certain that they are much more mindful of the advantages that these charges bring in their quest to press ahead. So much more effective than a pick and a shovel to break through impassable territory in order for passage.

When speaking of the gift of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, Jesus explained that the spread of the gospel message would go forth in greater power as we are those who are allowing the Holy Spirit to fill or flow through us in His power. The word Jesus used for power in Greek was, dunamis which specifically refers to miraculous power, ability, abundance and might. It is the word from which we get the word for dynamite!

The Person, presence and power of the Holy Spirit filling and flowing through the lives of believers is the most effective way to see many people come to believing faith, and the glory of God to be revealed in healing power. Even as we witnessed immediately following the Day of Pentecost when Peter preached and the church grew from a handful of around 120 to over 3,000 in one message.

Even today, 'A Promise of Power' is available to each one of us who will cry out to Jesus to Baptize us with the Holy Spirit and keep us hungry for fresh fillings to do the work of spreading the Good News of God's love. Not with a pick and shovel but with the dunamis power of the Holy Spirit chorusing through our lives!

Prayer Father, I pause right now and ask You to give me a hunger for more of the power of the Holy Spirit in my life. Fill me and empower me to be a mighty witness for Jesus Christ my Lord in all I think, say and do. Use all of us in Your church, the Body of Christ to do the same. I ask this in Jesus precious name.

Memory Verse:  John 14:13 NLT “You can _____ for __________ in my name, and I _____ do it, so that the ____ can bring _____ to the Father."
