A Daily Devotional with Pastor Doug Crouse May 18, 2018 Yes, Your Honor Scripture Reading – Proverbs 3:9 - 10 (NLT)"Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce. Then he will fill your barns with grain, and your vats will overflow with good wine."
If ever one finds them self in a courtroom and are posed a question from the judge correctly, a wise response is, 'Yes, Your Honor'. The reason for this is because we realize that the judge is in the seat of authority, and to pay him or her the respect due their name is quite simply the right thing to do.
Such is the case with our God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, King of Kings and Lord of Lords - who is worthy of our highest honor with all that we are and all that we have. A close heart connection in giving God more than lip service is what we actually do with our pocket books in regard to our worship (literally meaning to ascribe worth to).
The word honor is described as: 'esteem paid to worth; high estimation; reverence; veneration; any mark of respect or estimation by words or actions'.
How we honestly think of our God can be seen in making His kingdom our priority, offering him the very best - not as Cain, who offered him some of what he had, while Abel offered to God his best - actually resulting in the first recorded murder on earth (See Genesis 4). Even today people still are willing to do many things for money.
However, when as His followers we are faithful to the One who holds all things in His hands, He promises that we will not only have enough, but will have an abundance. And the new or good wine of the Person, presence and power of the Holy Spirit in our lives will bring forth an aroma that will glorify Jesus until we see Him face to face.
Prayer Heavenly Father I honor You as Lord of all today. Not only with my words, but also with my actions, my money, my time, my life. Holy Spirit be glorified through my sacrifice as I bring my best, I ask in Jesus name.
Memory Verse: 1 Thessalonians 5:16 - 18 NLT “Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”
