A Daily Devotional with Pastor Doug Crouse May 15, 2018 Your Treasure Chest Scripture Reading – Matthew 6:20 - 21 (NLT) "Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be."
While it is absolutely true that none of us can take anything with us when we die, today's text certainly teaches us that we can send it on ahead. And while, especially in these economically unstable times, interest rates and projections having hit everyone's projected paper valuations - it is eternally true, that the interest rates in heaven simply cannot be matched anywhere!
So we as His children have a choice to make, and it has to do with our money, our possessions. Or should I say His money, His possessions, which He has entrusted into our hands as His children.
The choice is where you will find, 'Your Treasure Chest'?
Many choose to leave it down here, investing most of it or simple spending it on fleeting temporal pleasures. And many have discovered that this choice is to say the least fleeting and disappointing in so many ways.
Others choose to invest their treasure in heaven. Here there can be no thieves that will ever break in and steal, and the compound interest on your treasure in heaven is shall I say, simply out of this world...smile....rejoice....reward!
The poignant truth of this text is that God does not say that where we place our treasure is a sign of where our wallets are, but He does say that it is the sign of where our hearts are.
In the words of Martin Luther concerning this he wrote that: 'the last part of man to be converted is his pocket book'. I would assume that this also applies to the purse strings of ladies as well.
And so today may God both examine and fill our hearts that we will choose to invest in what is best, for that is exactly where His interests are concerning each one of us today, and into eternity itself!
Prayer Heavenly Father I rejoice in the fact that You have purchased me with the precious blood of Jesus and call me Your child. Holy Spirit fill me and purify my heart so that I will choose to place my treasure in the right place. I ask this in Jesus name.
