A Daily Devotional with Pastor Doug Crouse May 12, 2018Paid in Full Scripture Reading – Luke 23:45 - 46 (NLT)"The light from the sun was gone. And suddenly, the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn down the middle. Then Jesus shouted, 'Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands!' And with those words he breathed his last."
Concerning the mission for which God the Father planned, even before the world began, and to which Jesus Christ the Son often spoke of as, 'I have come only to do the will of my Father', which was culminated that day on the cross when Jesus gave of His life blood for the sins of the world. Not only a partial payment, but - 'Paid in Full' for the sins of the whole world, and any and all who would call upon the name of Jesus and be saved.
Today's text symbolizes what took place that instant. From heaven to earth, through the sacrifice and precious blood of Christ Jesus, the way into the very presence of God the Father has been opened. And this not at any worldly price, but rather at the cost of the precious blood of Jesus Christ.
Therefore, as we come to Him for forgiveness and confess our sins and are born-again, we must also understand willingly and joyfully that truly Jesus Christ is Lord over all of our lives. And so we willingly surrender our selfish interests and now live for His greater glory in that same way desiring to do only those things that please our heavenly Father.
The life we once lived was ours to do with as we pleased. But the life that we now live is one gladly given over to the purpose for which we were redeemed by Jesus. That word redeem means: 'to buy back, to release from captivity or bondage by paying an equivalent'. May the living of our daily lives be a testimony of the price that was paid to secure this new way of living in Christ Jesus.
Prayer I rejoice heavenly Father that I can come freely to You at any time through the blood of Jesus my Lord. Make my life a testimony of the price that has been paid for my salvation, I pray in Jesus precious name.
Memory Verse: James 4:7 NLT “So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
