A Daily Devotional with Pastor Doug Crouse March 21, 2018 Uncommon Sense Scripture Reading – Psalm119:72 - 73 (NLT) “Your instructions are more valuable to me than millions in gold and silver. You made me; you created me. Now give me the sense to follow your commands."

The Bible is clear that in light of our eternal destinies that God has purposed for all who will call on the name of Jesus and be saved that our life-times, even should we live to be over a hundred years old, are like a vapor. When I think of that, I think of the last bit of steam you may see from a pot of tea - that's it at the very most! And how people spend their years. Some living for pleasure and trying to cram more and more enjoyment into these fading lives. Others living for position and doing everything they can to scrape and claw their way to the top, only to find - it was not anything like they had hoped for. Still more loving and living for possessions, and having a broad stock portfolio that seems to vanish before their eyes in this world economy, and will for eternity also if they are not careful. Many people would look at these ideals and balk at the very thought of criticizing any one of them and certainly all three, because they would see these things simply as common sense.

But today's text reminds us of the, 'Uncommon Sense' of God's kingdom. That to hear, understand, obey and live by and for the Word of God, is that which not only brings unspeakable joy in this world, but will bloom into unfathomable joy for eternity in the life that is eternal life to come in glory.

This understanding comes from knowing daily that God has made you for His ultimate purpose, and pursuing that for all of your days is what truly makes a life sing. There is a daily dependence to die daily in order that we may live fully, in which we must maintain a posture of prayer, petitions and praise. As God opens our understanding to His glories in and through our lives - we too can truly rejoice in the Lord for all of our days.

Prayer Father, I confess that at times all of the things I see which are fading away in this world, reach out, as if to claim my heart. Forgive me and lead me to be able to understand and see the glories that You have purposed through me. I ask these mercies in Jesus name.
