Glory to God Scripture Reading – Psalm 115:1 (NLT)“Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name goes all the glory for your unfailing love and faithfulness.”
I would imagine that if you asked any number of Christians if they wanted to glorify God with their lives that they would give a quick and perhaps even curt reply, ‘Of course’! However, if we truly stop for a moment of honest reflection as followers of Jesus and ask ourselves exactly what it looks like to live a life that would consistently say, ‘Glory to God’, I’m not so sure that even the majority of those who name of name of Jesus would jump in with both feet, hands and most importantly heart.
For if we are to truly glorify God with our lives it means dying to self, which does not even occur in the minds of those who have yet surrendered to the grace of God. But even in our lives as disciples this dying to self is often times a slow, and painful choice as we pick up our cross and follow after Jesus.
What exactly does this look like? It means things such as: putting others before yourself; actually choosing to be the servant of all; loving and forgiving those who would despitefully use you for their own gain, or even mistreat or lie about you; washing the feet of those who have claimed to follow Christ - even if their name is Judas; being the last one in line, knowing that you will be first in the Kingdom that matters most; asking the Holy Spirit to show you the will of the Father for your life and being willing to make that joyful sacrifice until you see Jesus.
How easy will that be? NOT! But it truly is the only life that is worth living. The only kind of love that is worth giving. And the only way in which His Kingdom will come and His will be done here on earth even as it is in heaven.
Prayer Heavenly Father forgive me I pray for those times I have put myself first. Help me I pray to choose to humble myself and be a willing servant in Your hands. Thank-You for Your great unchanging love and faithfulness in my life. Fill me to do all that You have redeemed me for, by loving and serving others I pray in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
Memory Verse: Matthew 7:12 NLT“Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you.”
