A Daily Devotional with Pastor Doug Crouse February 2, 2018 All Things Are Possible Scripture Reading – Mark 14:35 - 36 (NLT)
“He went on a little farther and fell to the ground. He prayed that, if it were possible, the awful hour awaiting him might pass him by. ‘Abba, Father,’ he cried out, ‘everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”
It was after what we call the last supper, and Jesus had told His disciples that He would be sacrificing His very life. Instructing them along with each one of us who name the name of Jesus to remember Him every time we partake of the bread and the cup. His broken body and shed blood. I know the disciples did not understand what was about to unfold.
Then taking the 11 who remained to the garden Jesus told them to watch and pray, so they would not give into temptation. Then He prayed this mysterious prayer asking the Father if it were possible to let the very cup for which He came to drink to pass Him by.
However as always Jesus prayed for the perfect will of the Father to be done. What a mystery when Jesus cried out on the cross, ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me’. Yet my sister and brother it was for our eternal forgiveness and adoption into God’s family as children of God that Jesus died and rose again!
It is good for us to remember that, ‘All Things Are Possible’, especially when you and I may be facing things we find hard to understand. Or if we are in the middle of a raging storm, or even in a hot, desolate, dry and desert season in our lives.
And like Jesus may we be willing to pray as He instructed us, ‘May Your Kingdom come and Your will be done in my life’, for the greater glory of God. For He never leaves us and will never forsake us. Even right now Jesus is ever interceding at the Father’s right hand that we will continue to glorify His name with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength.
Truly as we walk in the fullness of His will, we will realize the riches of His grace and goodness in our lives both now and forevermore!
Prayer Heavenly Father how grateful I am for the abiding Person and presence of the Holy Spirit in my life. He leads me, guides me, empowers me and comforts me in each and every season of my life. Thank-You Father that I can do all things through Jesus who gives me strength. Use me to encourage others I pray in His precious name.
