You Can Ask for Anything Scripture Reading – John 14:13 - 14 (NLT)
“You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.”
What does Jesus mean by these versus? Do you and I now have the privilege and power of telling God what to do, where to go, how to get there and why? Have we won the lottery spiritually speaking? Is God like Santa, just wanting us to sit on his lap and ask for whatever we want and he will deliver? Does this mean that we can look at anything and just go ahead and name it and claim it, or blab it and grab it?
Of course the (should be) obvious to all of the above questions is absolutely not! However, it is true my sister and brother that when you come to the Father through Christ Jesus the Son, ‘You Can Ask for Anything’, in His name and it will be done. Remember when Jesus walked on earth how time and time again He said that He only did the things that pleased the Father, that He and the Father are one, that if anyone had seen Him, they had seen the Father. The reason is because Jesus Christ is and was the perfect reflection of the will of the Father in thoughts, words and deeds.
So it is my friends when you and I align our hearts and lives with the plans and purposes of God that He will prosper us in everything that we are asking for, because we are asking, seeking, knocking and praying according to the good, pleasing and perfect will of our Father in heaven.
What is the result of praying in such a fashion? Of course as the text says the Father will be glorified through Christ Jesus the Son and we bring Him our lives in joyful surrender and walk according that His Kingdom come and His will be done right here through our lives on earth even as it is in heaven.
Is there anything else that we would rather do in our hearts than bring joy to the Father who has loved us so?
Prayer Thank-You Father that there is an open heaven over our lives because of how much You have loved us by sending Jesus to live, die on the cross and rise again for our salvation. Holy Spirit, open up my heart, my eyes and my life that I may walk in Your ways, bringing glory to Jesus for all of my days, I pray in His most holy name.
