Light Up the Night Scripture Reading – John 9:4 - 5 (NLT)

"We must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent us. The night is coming, and then no one can work. But while I am here in the world, I am the light of the world."

I will never ever forget going to the 6,500 ft. level underground in a nickel mine in Sudbury Ontario, my birthplace for a day. Once in the mine shaft, the individual who brought me down took me into an older mine shaft that did not have the luxury of any overhead lighting.  We walked with only the lights on top of our helmets perhaps a couple hundred yards or so. When he told me to turn of the light on the top of my hard hat, and then turned off his own, I experienced a darkness that even for the thirty seconds or so, was thirty seconds too long!

In today's text Jesus instructs His disciples, and us to, 'Light Up the Night'! For although He has went back to heaven and is sitting at the right hand of the Father, now He calls you and I in the Person and power of the Holy Spirit to let our lights shine in this dark world.

As we are faithful to do just that, spiritually the blind will see and the deaf will hear once again and receive life eternal and come and follow Jesus too. There is a time coming soon when Jesus will call out for us to come and be with Him. Then there will be a time of great darkness that will fall upon the earth. And in that darkness – very few will be able to work. Even thirty seconds will seem too long!

Prayer My Father I thank-You for Jesus, the Light of the World, Who lights up my pathway in the Person, presence and power of the Holy Spirit. I want to be faithful to do your works until I see Jesus face to face. Use me today for Your glory I pray in Jesus name.
