God Is At Work   Scripture Reading – Philippians 2:13 (NLT)

"For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him."

Many of us who grew up in the church or are familiar with the words of the New Testament have no doubt heard the scripture that tells each one of us to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling. But precious few know what text immediately follows that one up. I must confess if today's text and the understanding that it brings was not in scripture, I may have folded up my tent long ago. For one thing I have happily discovered is that I am not in this alone, and this walk of salvation does not all depend on me, not by a long shot.

For as crystal clear as it is that some 38 years ago as an eighteen-year-old I chose to follow Christ. Today's text reminds me that He chose me also. And while it is obvious that in my choice I have glad obligations to walk after the things of the Spirit and not after the flesh. It is of primary importance that I realize that 'God is at Work', in my life.

Specifically, God is giving you and I the desire to please Him. I have found that never leaves me, it is always with me guiding my steps daily. Notice that not only the desire, but the power to accomplish those things He is placing on our hearts. How I thank God for the daily personal walk with the Person of the Holy Spirit, and all He accomplishes through our lives for the greater glory of Jesus.

And this great work will not be finished until we finally see Jesus our loving Lord, when we will then become like Him. Until that day, may our lives and the sacrifices we bring become even more and more pleasing unto Him. May we hunger and thirst after all that Christ has for us being filled to overflowing with the Person and power of the Holy Spirit.

Prayer My heavenly Father, I remember today that You are working in my life, giving me the desire to do all of those things that are most pleasing to You. Holy Spirit, fill me, empower me and continue to open my eyes and understanding in order to glorify Jesus as a living sacrifice I pray in His name.

Memory Verse:  Romans 1:16a NLT “For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes."
