Desiring One Thing Scripture Reading: Psalm 27:4

“The one thing I ask of the LORD – the thing I seek most – is to live in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, delighting in the LORD’S perfections and meditating in his Temple.”

Today is my favorite day of the week – do you know why? It is because this is the Lord’s Day, Sunday, the time where all over the earth the people of God gather together and gladly lift up the name of our living and loving Lord Jesus Christ. David, the Psalmist and from God’s perspective, man after His very own heart also loved to spend time with God in His temple and had a heart for God’s people.

These past number of days have been memorable to say the least for myself and my family, as on Tuesday March 7, just after 7:30 P.M. Jesus called my earthly father home to heaven to receive his eternal reward. How grateful I am for my dad, who had made that commitment to Jesus Christ making Him the Lord of His life and in his heart of hearts my father was continually, ‘Desiring One Thing’. Pappa, you have made it safely home, and I will look forward to seeing you soon.

For mother of course this will be one of the most significant changes she ever has faced. Now instead of two praying together each and every morning, there will only be one lifting up each one in the family, those in Pastoral ministry and everyone involved in the advancement of the Good News to the ends of the earth. Mom, your daily morning prayer times will be a reminder of the times you and dad enjoyed over these 63 years of marriage.

For myself there is an awesome feeling of needing to continue and carry on a legacy of faith and godliness in our family, now that dad has been called home. On this past Tuesday, I had tried to get there before dad’s home going, but it was in the Toronto airport when I called one my cell that Jesus called him home. Dad had been able to speak either in person or on the phone that day to each and every one of his grandchildren. It was just after Pastor Kevin had visited earlier that twice dad quietly said, ‘Jesus take me home’. Now dad is enjoying the perfections of the Lord, the promise for each and every one of us who make Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord.

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ grip our hearts and lives with this one thing until we all gather around His throne and with gladness sing of the wonderful love of our Father God!

Prayer Heavenly Father, You are the One thing that I desire with all of my heart and soul. Fill me I pray with Your great love, mercy and grace that Jesus Christ would be seen in my heart and life in the choices I make and the things I do and say. Use me Lord to glorify Your name I ask through Christ Jesus my living and loving Lord and Savior.

Memory Verse: Romans 1:11 “For I long to visit you so I can ______ you some ___________ gift that will help you grow strong in the Lord.”
