Let It Flow Scripture Reading: 2 Timothy 1:6 -  7

“This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love and self-discipline.”

I remember as a youngster of 11 or perhaps 12, my friend and I wondering if those three foot green thistles would burn or not? So being the inquisitive young minds that we were after taking a hike perhaps 200 yards or so into the woods behind our houses, we carefully plucked five or six and set them in a pile amongst the tall grass. We had spent perhaps ten matches to no avail, when we had the bright idea to gather some dry grass and twigs amongst the green thistles, as to this point we were only able to achieve some smoke but no fire. To our great joy we discovered that as the grass and twigs caught fire, so did the thistles. However, to our horror, the wind came up and set the entire bush around us on fire.

The only memories I have following this are those of both of us feverously trying to stamp out the flames before we saw three fire trucks coming. The firemen were able to extinguish what had now become quite a blazing bush fire. Following that came my father and I was taught quite a blazing lesson. To be sure this was the very last time I ever played with matches.

The Apostle Paul now is encouraging his young disciple Timothy to, ‘Let It flow’! There was an impartation of a spiritual gift when Paul had laid his hands upon his young preaching protégée, and now he was encouraging Timothy not to shy back from the calling of God upon his life to use the gifts that God had stirred up in him.

We are the same today my sister and brother. God has entrusted each and every one of us with spiritual gifts in order that we may build up, encourage and edify the body of Christ Jesus. We need not be shy to step forward and use the gifts that the Lord has given to each one of us. It is in this way that the Person and power of the Holy Spirit will rise up in our lives and touch others with the grace, love and mercy of Jesus Christ.

So, do not hold back, keep on serving the Lord, allow the wind of the Holy Spirit to breathe once again on your heart and life today, filling you to overflowing for the glory of God. For it is God Himself who has gifted you to serve others in His precious name.

Prayer Heavenly Father how I thank You once again this day for the Person and power of the Holy Spirit at work in my life. In Jesus name I pray that You will give me faith not only to receive the gifts of God, but also to share them with others as I encourage my sisters and brothers all along the way for the greater glory of Jesus Christ use me I pray in His precious name.

Memory Verse: Romans 1:11 “For I long to visit you so I can bring you some spiritual gift that will help you grow strong in the Lord.”
