Called to Serve Scripture Reading: Ephesians 2:8 - 10

“God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”

There absolutely was a time when each one of us as God’s children called upon the name of Jesus Christ and were forgiven of all of our sins and adopted in to His forever family. But this text reminds us that it was actually God calling out to us in His mercy, love and grace that caught our attention while we were yet far away and disinterested. Yes, it was His amazing, rich and marvelous grace that reached out to us and gave us the opportunity to respond in believing faith.

Even now there is nothing that we can take credit for. No matter how many works we may do, how much we may pray, how much money we may give toward Kingdom endeavours – not any or all of these things really add up to anything when it comes to our eternal salvation, for this is the gift of God given to us in Christ Jesus our living and loving Lord.

As we progress in His grace, we need to remember that it is not the good works that we do that earn us any merit with the Father, because that was accomplished on the cross through the precious blood of Jesus Christ. When it comes to any boasting of any kind, let any of us who boasts like the prophet Jeremiah wrote, make our boast in the name of the Lord, and that we can know Him, because of His love and mercy.

To be sure we are saved by grace, through faith, and this is not of our own works, but each and every day that God graces to us my brother and sister remember that you are, ‘Called to Serve’! Even this serving is not of our own design. But God our Father in His perfect plan for all of our moments and all of our days has created good works for each one of us to recognize and walk in. May the Holy Spirit make us sensitive to each and every opportunity God is placing across our pathways, for this is the touch of the Master’s Hand upon our lives.

Prayer Father I rejoice once again in the riches of Your love, mercy and grace that reached into my life causing me to believe in faith on the Lord Jesus Christ. I am Your servant. Fill me and guide me into all of those good works that You have prepared for me today, and each and every day I pray through Jesus Christ my Savior and Lord. Amen.
