Search My Heart O God Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 4:2 - 4

“Now, a person who is put in charge as a manager must be faithful. As for me, it matters very little how I might be evaluated by you or by any human authority. I don’t even trust my own judgment on this point. My conscience is clear, but that doesn’t prove I’m right. It is the Lord himself who will examine me and decide.”

I remember as a young man growing up in my father’s house as the son of a business owner. There were different managers that my dad entrusted at times to serve in the businesses that he operated. Many of those served well, at least as far as I can remember and my father knew. But there was one man one day that I saw slip a $5-dollar bill into his pocket out of the cash register, and I asked him what he was doing that for! There were some other managers who even made this a regular habit thinking that they would get away with robbery.

We know that our God sees both the millions and the mites, and it is not within the human heart at all to always do what is right in His sight. However just as I will never forget that afternoon, so our God is always watching what we do with everything that He has entrusted to us. Our time, our talents and our treasure – and we can be sure that if we name the name of Jesus Christ and claim to follow after Him, that faithfulness will be expected from each of our lives.

As children of Christ we have a choice to make, not once or twice but each and every day that God graces to us. Will we be those who are man pleasers, chasing after the approval of people? Or will we to the best of our surrender be those who desire to have a heart and life that follow hard after God? Truth be told my brother and sister, even as God’s children we are given this freedom to choose, which in the end will determine whether we really win or lose out in eternity.

Jesus told us that it always is easy for us to see the faults, weaknesses and shortcomings of others as really, really big – while often times there is a log in our own eyes, while what we are seeing in the lives of others are only specks. We cannot even trust our own hearts, Paul tells us, because the heart of humans can be both deceitful, wicked and selfish in its interests.

If we truly want to live life to the fullest we need to be personally willing to say and pray daily, ‘Search My Heart O God’. As we do, He will continually renew our lives and make us new after the image of His one and only Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. And this my friends is exactly what we need, because one day God will examine the thoughts and motivations of our hearts along with the actions we took and evaluate our lives according to His Word.

Prayer Heavenly Father You know me, You made me, and You have the very best intentions for me to love and serve You. I open up my heart once again today and pray search me O God, and lead me in the ways that will bring glory and honor to Your holy name. I pray these mercies through Jesus Christ my Savior and Lord.

Memory Verse: 1 Thessalonians 5:24“____ will make this happen, for he who calls you is faithful.”
