If We Confess Scripture Reading: 1 John 1:9 - 10

“But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts.”

It is true in this life that if a criminal will plead guilty to a crime that they have committed, most often they will get a lighter sentence, or perhaps even time served if they have been in custody. Truth be told we all were or even still are in custody to our arch enemy the devil, whose purpose it is to steal, kill and destroy all that God the Father in His love has planned for us.

Spiritually and eternally today’s text reminds us of the greatest news ever! ‘If We Confess’, our sins, God will actually give us a full pardon. We will no longer be in bondage, but will be forgiven of all of our sins, adopted into the family of God as His very own children, and not only be given a full pardon because of the sacrifice of the precious blood of God’s one and only Son, our living and loving Lord Jesus Christ, but become heirs of all the great and precious promises of God.

On the other hand, if we refuse to confess our sins, or even worse, at any time in our lives, even as God’s children claim that we are without any trace of sin, we are lying most importantly to God, but to ourselves too, and showing that we do not understand the power and purpose of His Word. It never pays to call God a liar, and have our hearts hardened, so continue to reach out and pray for those who still have to come to this realization of their sinfulness and this amazing offer of everlasting life through faith in Jesus Christ.

We as God’s children now live with this great confession that, ‘Jesus is Lord’, and have the honor to tell others the Good News of the riches of our Father’s love, mercy and grace. Continue to pray that your life, your love and your longings would be those that point others to Jesus, and see the Gospel go forward to the ends of the earth.

Prayer Heavenly Father I pray that You will forgive me my sins as I forgive those who sin against me. Take and make my life a reflection of the riches of Your love, mercy and grace, that others might see Jesus Christ in me, I pray in His holy name.

Memory Verse: Psalm 51:12“Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you.”
