Come On In Scripture Reading: Ephesians 4:29 - 30

“Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them. And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.”

It is always good for us to remember that our God is a personal God. We have a personal relationship with the Father, through Jesus Christ His one and only Son, who gave of His life-blood to save our souls. And we are born-again, indwelt by the Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit is not a power, or a force, but He is a Person who can either be welcomed in our lives, or by what we think, say and do, or He in fact can be grieved.

As people who have been forgiven and adopted as God’s very own children, we never want to drive the Holy Spirit away, rather we want to be those who always have the welcome mat out on the doorstep of our hearts and lives inviting Him to, ‘Come On In’, in all of His fullness.

It is interesting to me to note that when people are filled to overflowing with the baptism of the Holy Spirit, that along with their Spirit’s being filled, they surrender their tongues to the language of the Spirit.

Noteworthy in today’s text that God calls us to make Him glad by ensuring that everything we say about everyone, everywhere would be words that are designed to be both good and helpful in order that those who even may be within earshot of the words we speak will be edified too. I don’t know about you, but for me it is these all inclusive words like, ‘everything and everyone’, that really cause me to cry out to God asking the Holy Spirit to seal my lips and order the words that I choose to speak according to His bidding.

When we walk in the fullness of the Spirit in this way, not only will we know a closer fellowship with the Father above, but we will know a much deeper and richer communion with our brothers and sisters, because who would not want to be around someone who was constantly building up and encouraging their lives in God? I can’t speak for you, but I pray that God will make me more like this each and every day that He graces me until I see His face and shout out with joy, ‘Thank-You Lord Jesus for redeeming my life’!

Prayer Heavenly Father I pray that the words of my mouth along with all of the meditations of my heart will be pleasing in Your sight. I know that as I walk in the fullness of the Holy Spirit that You will use me to build up and encourage others in Jesus precious name.
