High Tech, Low Touch Scripture Reading – Mark 10:13 - 14 (NLT)

"One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could touch and bless them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him. When Jesus saw what was happening, he was angry with his disciples. He said to them, 'Let the children come to me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children."

Imagine all those 2000 or so years ago, the disciples thought that Jesus was too busy to stop and place his hands on the children (or anyone for that matter, much of the time) pray and bless them. Oh contraire, my friend - not at all. In fact, you know the story well of Jesus then rebuking them and stopping and taking the time to do what was important, reaching out and touching, blessing and praying for them, as well as the parents I am sure.

In our ever increasingly busy, smart phoned, computerized, itemized, 'High Tech, Low Touch' world that we are living in, we do well to stop, and take a lesson from our Lord here. How would you like it if on your birthday or anniversary, your husband/wife, mother/father, son/daughter - who lived in the same house as you, sent you a text message, or befriended you on the latest and newest social network, or even and perhaps most personal of all came to see you via the computer screen. I think that if we understand that the Thanksgiving turkey just will not taste the same (in fact it will not taste at all if it only is an image on a screen or a few words in a mail describing how wonderful the stuffing was) - then perhaps even in today, 2017 we may get it.

If we are going to take our hands and be a blessing to others, we also will have to stop what we are doing, taking stock of what really matters, and really reach out to touch someone in Jesus name. For even sending flowers, candy or a gift means more than hitting the send (or send to all) button!

But being sent or going in Jesus name means more than you will ever know.

Prayer Father I pray that You will help me not to become desensitized to the needs of others around me, even of my needs to be one who stops, takes stock of what matters and reaches out and touches in the name of Jesus.

Memory Verse:  John 14:6 NLT "Jesus told him, 'I am the way, the ______, and the _____. No one can _____ to the Father except through me."
