Safe in the Storm Scripture Reading – Mark 4:38 - 39 (NLT)

"Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, 'Teacher, don't you care that we're going to drown?' When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, 'Silence! Be still!' Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm."

The disciples were no strangers to the sailing of a boat, or the crossing of windy seas or other bodies of water. Many of them grew up as fishermen and had learned their crafts from their fathers, who likely had learned from their fathers before them. So in this case when the wind and the waves suddenly came up, they took the appropriate measures immediately. But in very short order it became apparent that this was no ordinary storm. The boat was taking on water even faster than they were able to bail, and there looked to be no way out.

Exasperated and looking at Jesus who unbelievably in their eyes was sound asleep at the back of the boat, they roused him with shouts that they were all going down to Davey Jones locker, ner to return again....arrr!

But they had forgotten what Jesus had said at the beginning of the trip my friends, that they were going across to the other side! So much like you and I when we are facing the storms and winds of adversity in our lives at times forget that Jesus Christ has promised to be with us, never leave us, protect us and see the will of God successfully fulfilled as we place our faith hope and trust in Him.

So where is the trial/test today that is seemingly overwhelming: physical, emotional, financial, relational, at home, in your family at the workplace, in your schooling, concerning your future????

God has promised that you and I will be, 'Safe in the Storm', as we place our eyes and trust in Jesus Christ, our Prince of Peace. This promise is not only to us, but to all of those who will place their faith in Jesus. Remember He will take you safely to the other side my sister and brother!

Prayer Heavenly Father I ask You to forgive me when I have allowed the winds of adversity to seem to be overwhelming. Today I place my trust in You. Help me to be an encouragement to others going through storms in their lives, and see them also place their faith, hope and trust in You, I ask in Jesus mighty name.

Memory Verse:  John 14:6 NLT "Jesus told him, 'I am the way, the ______, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me."
