That Soon Coming Day   Scripture Reading: James 2:12 - 13

“So whatever you say or whatever you do, remember that you will be judged by the law that sets you free. There will be no mercy for those who have not shown mercy to others. But if you have been merciful, God will be merciful when he judges you.”

In the words of my mother on this wonderful Lord’s Day, ‘Son this is the only Sunday, February 5, 2017, that God will ever send your way, so live it for the fullness of the Lord’. Good words my wonderful mother, they seem to line up with what James is teaching to us today.

Whatever we do, or whatever we say as daughters and sons of God through faith in Jesus Christ our living and loving Lord, we must as His children be mindful of, ‘That Soon Coming Day’. Truth is that as God’s children we only have this day; we have no guarantee of tomorrow. Also as His very own children, today – once again His grace and mercies were made brand new for us. If we have tomorrow coming our way, we will find the fullness of His mercy in the rising of the sun, and even to the setting down of the same.

Therefore, the words that we speak this day should be sweet and not bitter. They should be those words that build up and inspire hope, not tear down or discourage those who have fallen or are struggling.

The things that we do, should be godly and not selfish. Rather than spending all of our lives and energies on our selves, we are to be those who are following after the ways of Jesus Christ and freely showing mercy to others, even as we have freely received mercy from God.

I don’t know about you my friend, but I can tell you that when I stand before the judgment seat of Christ Jesus, I want to be shown mercy! So I am committed to being a merciful person, even as the Lord is merciful to me. The flip side of that is that God will not show me any mercy, and then I would still be saved by grace, but only as one as escaping through the flames. All of my life’s efforts would be shown for what they are, wood, hay and stubble!

No, by His grace and for His greater glory, may we be merciful, that our lives will resound with the immeasurable graces of our God today and throughout all of eternity, through Jesus Christ our Lord!

Prayer Thank-You Father for Your mercies that are new once again today for me. May all that I am, all that I do and all that I say reflect these mercies I pray in Jesus precious name.
