Eyes Wide Open Scripture Reading – Psalm 119:17 - 18  (NLT)

"Be good to your servant, that I may live and obey your word. Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in your instructions."

The question that our loving and faithful God asks of us is not whether or not we are breathing air and have a beating heart - but whether or not we know what it is like to be fully alive? In order to experience life and the kind of life more abundantly that Jesus Christ came to bring, we must live our lives with, 'Eyes Wide Open'.

Such a posture is not a one shot deal. For instance, in my life, it was over 38 years ago that the Lord touched my heart, and my eyes were opened to things eternal and I asked Christ to come in and forgive my sins, and the Holy Spirit came and took up residence within my heart and life.

But God wants us to take the posture of the Psalmist who made it their daily prayer that God would continually give them open eyes and an open heart. This is of vast importance in all of our living, but especially when we are looking into the Word of God as today's text reminds us.

For in the Word are those gems worth digging down deep for that will add inestimable value to our lives and not only to ours, but to the lives of those God brings along our pathway. The keys that the Psalmist gives to us today are not only that we might be able to understand what the Word of God says, but by the Person and power of the Holy Spirit that we would live and obey the Word of God in our lives, day in and day out.

When we make this our daily business to walk in lives of obedience and service, God's goodness is able to flow through our lives in wonderful freedom and with mighty power.

Prayer Father I rejoice today for the eyes of the Spirit that my understanding has been opened to understand your Word. Holy Spirit fill me today with every good intention that the Father has purposed through my life in obedience and service, I pray in the name of Jesus my Savior and Lord.
