Serving the Lord Scripture Reading – 1 Peter 5:3 - 4  (NLT)

"Don't lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your own good example. And when the Great Shepherd appears, you will receive a crown of never-ending glory and honor."

Peter writes a warning to those who would be assuming the place of leadership in the church of Jesus Christ. His exhortation calls those of us who would serve in places of leadership to remember the Lord whom we serve and Who called us into the place of ministry. We are not to be abusive and/or self-directed in our interests, but to be those who live our faith and lives in a place of humility and example that points to the One we serve personally.

It always puts me to a stop when I remember that everyone in the church has been brought in by the precious blood of Christ Jesus our Lord. And one day I will stand before Him to answer not only every action that I carried out, but also the thoughts and heart motivations behind each and every one of them.

This posture of, 'Serving the Lord', does not only apply to those in leadership in Christ's church, but to each and every one of us. We remember that we are called to run the race, to fight the good fight of faith, to persevere until the end, for then we will receive a crown - yes, we will be crowned by the King of all kings, and the Lord of all lords, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. So remember in these last days to keep your eyes focused on the prize for which Christ Jesus has called you, and lift up your heads - for soon Your Lord will return with your reward!

And I want to thank each one of you for remembering to pray for those of us who have been called by Jesus to bring leadership to His body and His bride, the church of the living God.

Prayer Father, You alone are worthy. Jesus, You are my Lord. Holy Spirit help me to walk in Your power, but also in the place of humility where Christ Jesus will best be seen in me. I pray this for His eternal glory and in His mighty Name.
