It's Not About Me Scripture Reading – Philippians 2:3 - 5 (NLT)

"Don't be selfish; don't try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don't look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had."

'Climbing the corporate ___________' (and not caring so much about anyone that we may step on along the way, or any way we may use to accomplish it), 'looking out for number _____', 'me, myself and ___' (or if I will fit anyone else they will at least be... 'mine'), 'I'm the king (or queen) of the ___________', 'There goes a real self made ______ (or woman).

Probably most of you immediately without much thought were able to fill in most of the blanks in the above lines, because they represent the way that things work in this world for those who have this life only in their primary aims, thoughts and actions. And truthfully when that is ones focus it really is mostly about them, or at least them and their(s).

However, today's text reminds us that this is not to be the case for the follower of Jesus, whose life axiom should more likely read: 'It's Not About Me'. The definition of axiom by the way is: 'A self-evident truth or proposition whose truth is so evident at first sight that no process of reasoning or demonstration can make it plainer'.

Certainly that second chapter of Philippians (2:3 - 11) describing the journey Christ Jesus took from heaven to save us, and how He accomplished that can only be described as (self-less indeed), and in the perfect sense! There is no doubt that when anyone, at anytime looked at Jesus it was perfectly clear that He was busy doing the work of the Father.

And this is the attitude, not that we should have, but that we must have if we are to be successful women and men of God. I don't know about you, but for me, this does not come always naturally or at times easy. Perhaps that is what Jesus was speaking about when He spoke of giving up our lives for His cause that we may gain the life that truly is life.

Prayer Heavenly Father today I rejoice in Your love displayed to me through the life of Jesus, as He came to die for my sins, and rose again. Holy Spirit help me to have this same attitude as I live out my life, so that people will know that it is not about me, but my life is about Thee. I pray this in Jesus precious name.

Memory Verse:  Philippians 2:5“You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.”
